SPARK workshops ran over five weeks of the Autumn Term in different schools around Bradford, they included visual arts, theatre, dance, rap and music all themed around the Christmas shows; Peter Pan one year and The Secret Garden the next. On the sixth week all the children came to the West Yorkshire Playhouse to perform or show what they had done during the workshops. The celebration always had a fantastic atmosphere and is was great way to instil pride in the children’s achievements.
I wanted to make something that was both big scale visual art and performance so we made some cardboard ‘bricks’, then built our collage wall on stage at the celebration. They look tiny in the pictures but they were actually about 8ft high!
